PEM Machine

What is a PEM Machine?

A PEM machine is an assembly machine that permanently installs fasteners such as nuts, bolts, pins and similar elements onto sheet metal parts by pressing. During this process, no additional method such as welding, screwing or bonding is used. The fastener is permanently placed on the sheet material by applying high pressure. It is widely preferred in industrial production because it creates strong and reliable connections, especially in thin sheet metals.

Working Principle of the PEM Machine

The PEM machine positions the fastener on the sheet material and applies a controlled force in the vertical direction. Thanks to the applied pressure, the sheet material flows towards the special geometry of the fastener and a mechanical lock is formed. As a result of this process, the fastener is fixed without damaging the sheet surface and without loosening. The process is fast and provides high repeatability.

Types of PEM Machines

PEM machines are generally produced in different types: manual, pneumatic, hydraulic and servo-controlled. While manual PEM machines are mostly preferred for low-volume production, pneumatic and hydraulic systems are suitable for mass production. CNC and servo-controlled PEM machines are used in production lines that require high precision, process monitoring and automation. The type of machine to be selected is determined based on production capacity and part characteristics.

Applications of the PEM Machine

PEM machines are used in many sectors such as sheet metal manufacturing, electrical panels, automotive supply industry, white goods, electronic enclosures and machine manufacturing. PEM fasteners offer an ideal solution in cases where tapping in thin sheets is difficult or welding methods are not suitable. This shortens assembly time and makes production processes more efficient.
